picture of McGlynnsIt's often the way that the more pleasant the exterior of the pub, the more attractive the interior. That's certainly the case here, where a colourfully painted frontage gives way to a well cared for boozer that has all the charms you'd expect of a hidden away backstreet pub. Food at lunchtime for the experienced locals comes from a country kitchen style café at the back of the pub (china plates, Welsh dresser - all the works), whilst at night the workers and a few media types settle in for a pint or two, perhaps as a respite from the nearby Clerkenwell bars. It's the sort of place where you'd expect to find Neil Diamond and Chas and Dave on the jukebox (all present and correct) as well as some choice Irish balladeers (the work of Sean Wilson is especially favoured here). The south side of King's Cross isn't the most salubrious area of London to be walking around in but a few drinks here will see you right.
