As this pub seems to have it all - an dazzlingly ornate interior (part of the old Great Eastern Hotel - some say banqueting hall, some say ballroom, depends who you ask), a large range of decent, well-priced beer (especially for the City) and cheap pub grub - you'd be forgiven for thinking it's well worth a making an effort to visit here. Sadly, you'd be wrong. If ever proof of the "the closer to the station, the worse the pub" theorem was needed then this is it. Relentlessly packed - with braying City commuters, bewildered travellers and usually both, this place is not a pleasant drinking experience. Add the Friday/Saturday night crowd and/or a bunch of footy supporters and you'll have a pretty close approximation of some people's idea of hell.
