Fit and working again after a recent refurb, the Marquis has been smartened up, its new decor evoking theatrical times past (drapes, old opera programmes). With an interior not too dissimilar to many a gastropub, you might expect the menu to be upgraded too. On our visit though, the bar menu merely consisted of a list of quality sandwiches. Beer selection was decent enough and things are governed over by a landlord of the old school. Worth noting as well that this one fills up for the football and the rugby - may not be what the tourists are after, but it makes a change for the area. All in all, the pick of the pubs around Cambridge Circus.
