picture of Paxtons HeadA lot of money has gone into refurbishing the Paxton's Head. The interior is aglitter with frosted glass and towering red velvet window treatments. The staff have uniform shirts with the pub's name embroidered over their hearts. On each table and wall are evidence of a profligate printing budget. It's location is impressive, near the posh heart of Knightsbridge, the Royal Albert Hall, Hyde Park, and Harrods. With so much going for it, it's a shame the owners of the Paxton's Head neglected the three things a pub must have, good beer, good food and good service - the "pub trifecta" if you will - the Paxton's falls short on all three. There were empty beer taps on three recent visits, and we were charged twice for the beer we finally settled for. The young staff can best be described as "unenthusiastic". The atmosphere is that of a tourist trap, not a genuine pub. Since the main goal seems to be separating the tourist from as much cash as possible, no effort has been devoted to bringing customers back or creating a cadre of loyal locals.

Eating at the Paxton's Head ... we last ate here on 02/03/2008

Evidently, none of the extensive refurbishment budget was spent on hiring a talented chef. The burger had the chewy consistency of food that has been frozen and microwaved. The "daily special" fish pie was mostly mash with very little fish. The carrot cake and the treacle sponge were gluey and flavorless. We agree with bartender who was heard telling his girlfriend, "You shouldn't eat here, it's too expensive."
