Come out of the tube station and turn left up the hill. At the traffic lights keep going up the hill and cross the road. Maddens is the pub is the covered in ivy.

East Finchley is a very mixed bag, pub wise, but as more 'traditional' pubs go, Maddens is one of the better choices. Essentially an Irish pub shop conversion, its not only for the preserve of Irish locals - every visit seems to find the place filled with a good atmosphere and a mixed crowd. We've seen that they've recently cut back lots of the great exterior foliage and changed the frontage, which we feel has removed some of the charm. Nevertheless, inside the decoration is interesting, with the front section being a traditional-looking bar and the back being a newer loungey area, with candles and couches. When you add a great choice of ales into this mix, we can only recommend - and if you happen to be in N2 on the right day, go take at look at the 'Asian Elvis' performer - who has to be seen to be believed.
