picture of Fitzroy TavernThe Fitzroy is a big old pub with literary pretensions. Dylan Thomas used to drink (heavily) here and there are photos dotted about alluding to him and his bohemian friends' patronage here. The interior, however, is rather more gloomy than other nearby Sam Smith's pubs - especially at the back - and its not one we hanker to visit very often. Thomas may approve, but we find it rather depressing. The usual Sam Smith's portfolio of ales are on offer (the Marmite of the brewing world) at their usual very competitive prices and there's also food served at the expected times. Suffice to say that its location means its almost always busy - annoyingly so after work and especially on Friday nights. Often the best and most atmospheric spot is to be found outside on the pavement, which frankly doesn't say a lot for the inside.
