Residing on a street bearing its name, the Hare & Billet has a great position just outside the centre of Blackheath, with perfect views of the heath itself. The location ensures it primarily caters for the locals, with most visitors to the area spilling into the pubs around the station, and it is probably all the better for this. The interior is fairly plain, but it's a comfortable enough place to meet up and also seems like the sort of place where you can happily relax and enjoy a drink on your own, especially if a window seat is available. Keen ornithologists might even be lucky enough to spot a heron at the pond opposite, while the rest of us concentrate on the Old Speckled Hen inside. IPA, Abbot and Hoegaarden are among the other options, while a fairly large food menu is available both at lunchtime and in the evening.
