We're not sure what it is about Hackney that causes it to have a disproportionate number of pubs serving Belgian beers on draught, but whatever it is, we're all in favour of it. This is a Victorian pub on London Fields that's been tidied up a bit and serves ace beer (not just Belgian, but four real ales on the hand pumps) and an eclectic mix on the other pumps. The décor is all old (recycled) furniture, wooden floors and green plants, which can be a cliché, but in this case fits in and the food is pretty comprehensive. This is a female friendly pub (and we don't mean that pejoratively), relaxed and open and with a pretty decent wine list. The only thing that lets it down is that with a fantastic beer garden, the warm summer evenings - especially bank holidays - sees the place crammed with the local residents and their screaming kids. Notwithstanding some recent problems we've had with one of the bar staff, this is still a great place to spend an easy afternoon.
