'Up and down the City Road, In and out the Eagle, That's the way the money goes. Pop! goes the weasel'. For those who like a bit of history, not many pubs can lay claim to being mentioned in a nursery rhyme - a old cautionary tale of spending all your money on booze. Times have changed (perhaps) and although the Eagle was Islington-ised a while back, at heart its still a pub. The staff are friendly and there's a fine choice of drink - guests ales on the hand pumps and plenty of fine Continental beers on tap. In addition, the ivy-covered garden is pretty and there're barbecues in Summer. Although often eerily quiet on Saturdays, its location off Old Street roundabout means during the week its full with an oil-and-water mix of local office workers, flatsharers, council estate dwellers and Hoxtonites. Overall, not bad at all.
