Tate Britain (200m)
A traditional Young's pub that's been given the redecoration and rebranding which so many other Young's pubs have had in the last few years. Probably the thinking is that the cultured visitors to Tate Britain wouldn't dream of setting foot in an old fashioned pub, so let's give them something more modern. Whilst we're sad to see that this one's interior has been slightly altered - we're sure there used to be some booths on the wall as you went in - to make room for more "vertical drinkers" (ie people standing up), a noticeable change is now the level of service here. The Morpeth always seemed to have all the right ingredients for a great pub, but in our experience it never was. The refurbished Morpeth won't be for everyone, but the alterations aren't as wholesale as in some other Young's pubs and they haven't resulted in the Morpeth ending up as a wannabe gastropub. The beer is as good as it ever was and the service from the staff has definitely improved: reason enough then for this one to be promoted to a 3 pint rating.
