picture of RailwayThe smell of fresh paint still lingers here, but the newly revamped Railway appears to be all the better for it. The old pub has been banished and a shinier, much more modern pub has taken its place. This doesn't mean that traditional refreshment is not available on the hand pumps, far from it - there's Speccy, Ruddles County, IPA and Abbott to choose from - but the Railway now offers a broader choice of other drink (eg Leffe Blonde and Peroni on tap), better wine and modern pub grub (platters to share and the like), to be enjoyed in a contemporary atmosphere. We're not sure about the booths with the high tables and benches - they seemed rather high, like being back in a high chair, without a bib - but the rest of the pub has a smart and laid-back feel to it. And the staff were jolly, helpful and friendly too. No doubt the new look Railway will appeal to the younger population in these parts, especially at the weekend, but we also reckon it will be a welcome sight for tired commuters as they leave the station, after another dreary weary day pushing paper round the City.
