The middle of a trio of Whitehall pubs practically in a row, this one fares better than the others by actually having a bit of character. With leather bench seating, leaded windows and original wood panelling, a recent refurbishment has only improved the feel of the place. Probably because the frontage is overshadowed by that that of its more brash neighbours, its often less hectic and consequently easier to get a seat. The staff are more attentive than in the past, the beer is well kept and the food was good. Due to its location, it will always be a bit touristy (we've seen a few less worldly travellers expecting table service) and its often very quiet on Saturday evenings, despite being a mere stones throw from Trafalgar Square. Nevertheless, one of the better Whitehall pubs.
