Stinging Nettle, Shepherd's Bush  

Formerly the Bushranger, this one's now been relaunched by Young's with one of the more intriguing London pub names of recent years. It's very much in the mould of the other pubs Young's have remodelled over the last few years: a plush refit where gilt framed mirrors adorn flock wallpapered walls. It looks a sizeable pub from the outside, but the ground floor is quite a narrow space, dominated by high stools and tables. Upstairs has more comfortable seats but not a great deal more space, though there is the benefit of a roof terrace is you fancy an eyrie above the Goldhawk Road. The Stinging Nettle is a prime example of Young's re-branding: it's the sort of place where the big screen isn't for the watching of sport but for the playing of Wii games (if you hire out the upstairs room). The Stinging Nettle won't appeal to all the local residents, but if you want a safe pub in this area, then this one comfortably fits the bill.
