how to find it:
Kennington: Exit the tube, turn left then cross the road. When you get to Cleaver Square walk all the way through the Square and Cleaver Street until you see the Dog House across the junction to your right. The Black Prince is beyond that, over the road. Oval: A stroll up Kennington Park Road before a left up Kennington Road.

Kennington has a comprehensive little collection of pubs, which runs the gamut from pretty traditional pubs, to trendy gastro affairs. The Black Prince is of the die-hard local's variety. An old Victorian boozer, it's sat at the edge of the council estates on Black Prince Road and many of the regulars are older Irish fellas; of course this isn't a bad thing, especially when they're faultlessly polite. The decor is that of an Irish boozer circa 1985 and is looking a little tired now - the distinct smell of cleaning products didn't help either. Despite this, it felt quite homely and the beer garden was pleasant enough. Nothing of value on the pumps, so expect generic lagers and Guinness, but the pool and darts made for suitable entertainment. If you can get past the fact people will look at you on the way in (it must be unusual for them to receive new custom) then you can easily have a fine time here, as we did. However, we can imagine this isn't everyone's cup of tea, so we're awarding a two pint rating.
