A pleasant surprise, this one. We seem to remember a previous incarnation which was all black leather furnishings and cubed seats - well, there's been a refit which has turned the place back into (yikes!) a pub. So, enter through the revolving doors and take your pick from a fine drinks selection (Sleeman's India Pale Ale being worth a try). The menu also offers up traditional fare and by the time we noticed the bar billiards table, we though some heavy exercise in Shoreditch irony was underway. It's not - just like the Owl and Pussycat not too far from here, this is a modern pub with a traditional feel and - judging from our visit - it's one that's proving popular. We haven't sampled this one at weekends yet, though it's safe to say the multicoloured downstairs dance floor gets some action. Mid week though, this is one of the best in the area.
