sorry no picture of this pubOne of two pubs in the small village of Woolhope, the 14th-century black and white timbered Butchers Arms is usually the quieter neighbour to the perennially popular Crown Inn. The Butchers, part of which was actually a butcher's shop many moons ago, is split into two narrow rooms which run along the length of the bar, with a very low beamed doorway separating them. Many heads have taken a bump here so maybe not wearing high heels would be a good plan, especially for 6-foot-6 men. Visitors sampling the food menu account for a large proportion or the trade, though there are always a few locals at the bar. Larger parties can be accommodated in the separate restaurant. There is a small garden area next to a stream at the back, but you can't beat a seat next to the fire on a cold winter's evening. If the small car park at the front is full, a much larger space is hidden the other side of the pub.
