Imagine a massive country pub. Now imagine it parachuted into suburban Wembley, crushing a row of 30's tract homes like the Wicked Witch of the East in the Wizard of Oz, only the feet sticking out... Anyway, this pub feels like it's in the wrong place. But it isn't. It seems to have come to some accommodation with its surroundings, becoming a local bar for local people and respecting their wishes too - the outside area closes up about 10.30. Not a great selection of beer for the ale drinkers (does John Smith's count?), but like many in the area has fantastic Guinness - regular and cold - and a selection of lagers. There's a large function room available as well as pool tables and darts to compliment the tellies in every room. We suspect it gets busy at weekends, though the friendly staff seem more than capable of dealing with the rush. It looks like a haven for England supporters racing fans (the racing from Aintree was on last time we were in, but it's also far enough away from Wembley that it's unlikely any hardy souls use it as a pre-event meeting place, more of a local pub for local people. And it's got the only fish tank we can remember with an eel in it!
