The Britannia is a charming and sympathetically renovated pub around the back of Guy's Hospital. Despite the stripped floorboards, a couch or two and a scattering of statuettes (including Betty Boop), this still feels like a proper pub. Good lighting, quality music and great service are the first things which grab your attention, but the positives don't end here. Accompanying the reasonable choice of ale on tap and some decent grub is a simply staggering list of whiskies. We know a number of pubs in London offer a good selection of whiskies, but the blackboards here indicate that more than 100 whiskies are on offer, even if the number of bottles on the shelves behind the bar seem somewhat short of this figure. Despite Borough not being short on excellent places to drink, this relaxed and cosy pub is still one of the better in the area and happily fulfils the description of 'hidden gem'.
