picture of Drouthy NeeborsOstensibly a Scottish theme pub that arrived in St Andrews round about the same time, in the mid 1990s, that the place also got its first Irish theme pubs (both of which have now, thankfully, rebranded themselves out of twee-dom and naffness) Drouty Neebors slightly overdoes the Burns references in its decoration. That said, there is probably less wanton abuse of tartan therein than one might find on the average contemporary Edinburgh city bus. Ignore the pretension to theming and what you have is a perfectly acceptable drinking place. A few real ales, and some of Scotland's other beverages too, and a range of different seating areas in at what is a deceptively spacious boozer. Don't expect the small chain of these pubs (found in a few strategic locations around Scotland) to become the next O'Neills - and be thankful that this is so. All the stuff about St Andrews being a well of knowledge where people come to drink stands up here- the clientele are mainly students, and generally the more agreeable type, but you wouldn't have to be one-time bejant or bejantine to fit in.
