Masons Arms, Louth  

We're great fans of pubs like the Masons Arms, they're everything a good pub should be - a focus for the local community, a welcoming rest stop for visitors and they offer good food a drink with a minimum of fuss and pretension. We stayed here almost two decades ago and, thankfully, the intervening years have not changed the pub much. There's an excellent selection of well-kept real ales on the hand pumps and a decent range of other beers, lagers and two ciders on tap. The wine list is pretty ordinary, but the food is good and the restaurant upstairs has a good reputation locally. The decor maybe a little vintage Phoenix Nights, but it's food drink and the warmth of the welcome you'll come here for. Long may it continue.
