how to find it:

A couple of miles from Chorleywood station, you either drive here or are planning an afternoons country walking. However from the station, exit right and take the first left (Common Road) which you follow all the way to the junction with Rickmansworth Road, where you turn left. After a while, take the first left (North Hill) and follow it for just over a mile. The pubs on the right passed the church. There are probably hiking routes in the area, as walking on narrow, pavementless North Hill isn't recommended.

picture of Cock InnThis isn't a pub you accidentally stumble across. Situated In the village of Sarratt - a couple of miles from Chorleywood - this is a bona fide old-school pub. Cottagey in look, the inside is equally traditional in feel, with a large old fireplace and low doorways. It was pretty busy on our Sunday early evening visit, with groups of mainly older regulars enjoying the jazz singer (think Frank Sinatra rather than Miles Davis). The a good compliment of Hall & Woodhouse ales are available, along with a good-looking sunday lunch in the restaurant annex. Out back the beer garden and it's accompanying views over the countryside would be pretty hard to beat. Combine a visit here with Sarratt's monthly antiques fair and the nearby strawberry PYO for a nice, distinctly middle class, afternoon out.
