how to find it:
Chalkwell station is a lot, lot, nearer than Leigh-on-Sea station. Leaving Chalkwell, cross over the road and turn left, and take the first road on the right, Beach Avenue (conversely heading away from the beach). At the end turn left along Leigh Road, and you'll find the bar on your right after a few minutes, after the junction with Lord Robert's Avenue.

Silly name, perhaps, but this is a worthy addition to the quality drinking-and-eating-and-generally-hanging-out range of places of Leigh. It's partly a lounge bar, all cosy low-slung leather sofas and chairs, gentle lighting, a very wide range of spirits, and partly a dining area. As well as a few beers, a decent range of wines, there are surprisingly modestly priced cocktails and shooters on the menu (including one named after denizens of this town, including, amongst other things, absinthe...probably not advised before clifftop walks). The dining room is elegantly but simply decorated, with drapes on the ceiling, with only glass walls in all directions separating it from the bar area, and the menu looks moderately adventurous, and , again, reasonably priced. Gentle, sophisticated music played in the background during our visit, at just the right volume so as to be complementary and not intrusive - and anywhere that has Electribe 101 on is alright with us. Friendly staff, too. Not one for real ale buffs (but Leigh has plenty of other options for them), but a fine little place and one that seems to attract a wide range of people. (Closed on Mondays, "Smart casual" dress code)
