Chequers is a pleasant little local pub, somewhere between the village of Northaw and Potters Bar. It's a little tatty around the edges, but the locals seemed an amiable bunch and the service was very friendly. If this were closer to London the beer garden would've been sold off to make unaffordable flats such is its enormity, with a capacity reaching somewhere into the hundreds; the sheer quantity of outdoor toys scattered around also indicated the potential for extreme 'child friendliness' here, although we were here slightly too late in the evening to witness that particular nightmare. Drinks wise, there were a couple of ales on tap, both reasonably kept, while the Old Rosies cider had sadly gone pretty decisively off, which they happily replaced, conceding that its hardy ever drunk here. Not one to go out of your way for, you might pop in if you're passing.
