how to find it:
Probably more or less equidistant between Canterbury East and Canterbury West stations, and a 10-15 minute walk from each of them. Canterbury's bus station is slightly nearer. The pub is located on Orange Street, at the corner with Guildhall Street.

A Tudor beamed building with an abundance of hanging baskets livening up its external appearance, from the outside the Seven Stars looks moderately promising. Signs boast of real ales and a good selection of wines. (The real ales available were Spitfire and London Pride - decent enough drinks, but hardly the stuff of boasts.) Inside, though, it doesn't seem to quite work. Maybe it's the generic pre-ponsification pubby way it's decorated, maybe it's the inane and banal music that was pumping out far too loudly, even when there weren't many punters of an early afternoon. Maybe it was the disgustingly dirty state of some of the seats and tables in the small rear courtyard (where it was still impossible to escape the inane blare of naff music). It's a pity, as the Seven Stars has a good location, near the cathedral, within the city walls, and in an attractive area. But, unfortunately, when we visited, it really wasn't quite good enough.
