Some people believe that only certain things should accompany a good pint: a pickled egg, a packet of prawn cocktail crisps or some dry-roasted nuts. But really, what do they know? For at Murphis, there lies a very different answer to what goes best with a pint: karaoke. If this sounds like you (no, come back!), then make haste. Just a hop and a skip from Farringdon, this bar is waiting to welcome you with open arms, a cordless mike and a catalogue of songs to keep you amused all night. We popped by late on a Saturday (there's a £5 cover charge after 9pm), probably the best time to see the bar at its karaoke best. Parties of well-oiled punters belted out hits flashed up on the flatscreen TV, the beer flowed and one woman fell asleep upright, drink still in hand. And didn't spill a drop, which we applaud. If karaoke isn't your thing, there's a dance floor downstairs too, which reminded us of a long-forgotten school disco. Let's be clear: this place wins no prizes for being cool. However, it does have super-friendly staff, stays open till very late and you don't have to worry about being able to sing. Nobody else does.
