picture of LavenderVying for trade with the nearby Rose, these two smartened up Victorian pubs battle it out daily for the lunchtime and after work crowds (well, apart from those who prefer the more sleazy delights of the Queen Anne over the road). Of the two, the Lavender is the more pubby. Sure, its bare floorboarded intentions are easy to categorise and we spotted a couple of reserved signs, but there's a couple of ales on tap - Young's Special and Spitfire, last time we were in - and plenty of space to spread out and relax. We didn't sample the gastro-style food menu but we nonetheless enjoyed an agreeable time here.
