From Taunton station, exit left onto Station Road and walk into town. Keep to the left and after a six or seven minute walk you'll find the Coal Orchard on the left hand side, just before you reach the river.

If we were to tell you that this branch of Wetherspoons, like the hundreds before, is a bland and forgettable establishment with an atmosphere drought, you probably wouldn't be totally surprised. What does distinguish this one is the attractive exterior - art deco in appearance, with the remnants of a pleasant looking wooden fronted shop. However, if the best thing you say about a pub is that it "looks nice from the outside" that's not exactly an overwhelming endorsement. There's the usual selection of real ales and cheap food, but you can easily discover more characterful places in Taunton.
