Doing its best to rise above its location (this one hunkers down between a McDonald's and an Arcades) the Arbiter is a smart bar and restaurant. The unique selling point of this one is the Scandanavian tinge to its menu (for example, you can dip into the Smorgasbord selection or gorge yourself on the lot for £35), but even if you're sticking to the drink you should be catered for here. Plenty of interesting drinks, though only two beers, but the choice (Timothy Taylor Landlord and a regular guest - Twickenham Spring Ale when we looked in) and quality of them were a cut above your usual gastropub selections. Almost as pleasing was the comfy banquette of the downstairs bar, which helps break up the formal feel of the wooden furniture. We can't vouch for the upstairs dining room, but the service, selection and generally relaxed air of this one nudge it into our 3 pint rating.
