We had great expectations when we found this small wooden-fronted pub, which on closer inspection extends into a former shop next door (maybe it hit hard times), still with its sign and original clock in the window. To then witness everyone at the bar turn round when we entered wasn't the most auspicious start, but we were soon left to our own devices. The interior doesn't have as much character as the exterior promised, but far from being a bleak (public) house it is certainly comfortable enough, with the window seat a good spot to watch the world go by. It is a tale of two rooms rather than cities, with the main bar offering the majority of the seating, and the smaller area containing a blue bar billiards table and one of the pub's two dart boards. But what the Dickens was the TV doing on at 7pm on our midweek visit?
