how to find it:

Exit Oval tube and turn right. Keep walking down Kennington Road before turning right down Claylands Road. Eventually you'll see Ashmole Street on the right where you'll also see the pub.

The Oval (140m)

picture of The RoebuckHidden away behind Oval tube, from the outside the Roebuck has the look of a converted house. This sensation is carried on inside: the wallpaper, carpet and curtains all giving off the feel of a front room (or perhaps three front rooms, given how they clash). An adequate array of drinks is on offer, including a couple of ales and a small beer garden at the back has a certain charm. Even if this isn't that bad a boozer, it's one that was sparsely populated when we stopped by, with only a very small handful of blokey locals. The deer pictures that adorn the walls are a nice reference to the pub's name, but there's not a lot here to entice you this far from the pubs on the main drag.
