sorry no picture of this pubThe best of the three pubs in Ashtead - at least at the moment. This allegedly 300 year old pub-come restaurant has in recent years suffered something of an identity crisis. From a classic old style coaching house in the last millennium it tarted up and trendified itself by becoming the Lomac - clever acronym, eh? - decided it was into fine dining and generally got so up itself it couldn't tell its nostril from its navel. But with a new governor this year the proper name is back as is an elegant, stylish series of interconnecting bar areas with varying mood furniture and an excellent restaurant at the back. It's reasonable value for Surrey with starters around a fiver and mains generally around £12. Taylor's Landlord and Pride head up the ales and several premium lagers are on hand. This is civilised drinking and dining.
