sorry no picture of this pubUnless it forms part of your route home there are relatively few reasons to traverse Harold Street, but the Volunteer must provide the best excuse. Catering for a mainly local crowd, it is a simple affair but always seems a pleasant spot for a pint. The door opens straight into the main bar, which then leads on to a further room at the back. Cider and ale drinkers are well catered for, while the good value food is a bonus. If we were to have a grumble it would be about the toilets, which can only be accessed by going outside. During the winter months or an apocalyptic storm this isn't going to bring a smile to anyone's face, apart from those with colostomy bags who can stay in the warm. Still, we think its worth a detour from the centre of town.
