Jackdaw & Rook, Balham  

This is a pretty decent busy Fullers pub on Balham High Road. As you'd expect from a Fullers the drinks are good and the food here also comes recommended. The atmosphere is a bustling, lively, partyish one so if that is what you're looking for it fits the bill. Not the ideal place for a quiet drink and chat however. There are a few attractions that help to bring the crowd in, including the pool table which you pay for by the time rather than per game (a good idea we think). Quiz games machines, sport is played, cocktails are available, and there is a relaxed living room style area at the back, which can be reserved for parties. It's a nice escape which provides a good balance, except the noise level is still a little higher than a comfortable level for our liking. Worth noting that if you book the back area (free) you can also book time on the pool table for free. We did notice that although the staff are friendly enough, it often takes them a few attempts to understand what drink (or whatever) you actually want. For a pub though, a Saturday night would hold a good night if you're not looking to go further than a pub.
