The Garden Ladder is now an established part of the Green Lanes (or Haringey Village for the estate agents out there) drinking scene, providing more of a bar atmosphere than the local rivals. This former restaurant is long and narrow, but a series of mirrors help it feel wider, even if the uniform nature of these, and most of the tables, means they've missed an opportunity to inject some character. There are, however, some interesting touches, including a glass bar containing dried flowers. It seems to have built-up a dedicated clientele and do a brisk trade at weekends, when a DJ provides the entertainment. The music can be hit and miss, but is certainly varied, though one thing that never changes is the excellent service. Alan Partridge's favourite Directors Bitter is amongst the drinks options, there are regularly guest ales, and the food menu (though we're yet to try it) looks to be good value. Drinkers who arrive early enough can take advantage of happy hour from 4:30-6:30. There is a small covered area at the back for smokers.
