The Partridge is a wide, low pub with a community feel. On our visit, only one side door allowed entry; the others were apparently locked to keep the heat in. Possible green credentials aside, this is a sparely furnished, forgettable pub. A chalk board of house rules above the bar warns that patently drunk customers will be ejected, and we'd imagine that this draconian law has been enforced here on a few occasions. Some tawdry music - of the variety that southeast Londoners pimp their motors to - didn't enhance the pub's atmosphere either. An odd assortment of moody, Athena-esque black and white posters decorate the walls, showing James Dean, Liverpool St. station in 1942 and downtown New Orleans, amongst other subjects. If you're in the Cray Valley on the Lord's Day, the Sunday carvery here might appeal, but otherwise we suggest you leave it to the locals.
