picture of BroomwoodFrom the outside The Broomwood appears a fairly smart boozer, promising 'fine food, fine ales, good company'. While we didn't try the food, we would observe that the latter two were notable solely by their absence. We visited early in the afternoon, when our fellow drinkers comprised mostly loudmouthed geezers discussing, at high volume, football, selling second-hand cars and (in not exactly these words) their disapproval of miscegenation. The prevalence of vodka-fuelled bottled drinks in fridges behind the counter and an abundance of electronic forms of entertainment imply that the pub may have a more fresh-faced clientele come the evening (and possibly an implicit role in ensuring the demographic renewal of St. Paul's Cray). And while it's a fairly big place, that doesn't mean better - it just makes for a more time-consuming escape. All in all, this is a rather hideous pub well worth avoiding.
