how to find it:
From the tube turn left and head down the Quadrant, Richmond's main shopping precinct, carry on across at the lights on George Street. When you get to the point where the road bears to the left, Water Lane is practically directly opposite. Cross the street and go down Water Lane to the water - the White Cross Hotel is on the right.

On a hot summer's night everyone wants to be by the river and this is where they come. Hordes of them, milling between the water's edge and the pub - a space that gets more and more narrower as the tide comes in. The pub itself is a large old building, but it doesn't have the room you think it should have inside - it however is easy enough to get a seat when everyone else is outside. The fare is the usual Young's stuff so there are no real surprises. Also good to see the staff are efficient and pleasant, even when the pub is mobbed.
