how to find it:

Directions: Leave Kew Gardens tube and head for the gardens. When you get to Kew Road and the gardens are opposite, turn right. Bear left with the road and when you get to the cricket green, carry on straight ahead to the far side. Turn left along that side of the green, and the pub should be about 100 yards down on the right.

picture of Rose and CrownWhereas most pub chains strip things down when refurbishing, Chef & Brewer take the opposite approach, turning up the 'rustic' quotient whenever they can. So the 'new-look' Rose and Crown now comes with lowered ceilings, real heavy wooden beams and various olde knickknacks; the whole effect is fairly convincing and not too bad, in a harvester kind of way. There's three ales on tap, none particularly inspired and food best described as 'adequate', which is a shame for a place which promotes it so heavily. Still, it has a great location overlooking Kew Green and sitting in the pleasant front garden watching the cricket on a sunny afternoon couldn't be more pleasant, or quintessentially English, if it tried.

Eating at the Rose & Crown ... we last ate here on 2/7/2006

Sunday roast fairly cheap (£7.95) but very disappointing. Flavours reminiscent of school dinners and not acceptable, considering the competition nearby.
