how to find it:
From Plumstead station, cross over the road and walk through the graffited and broken glass-strewn underpass. Walk north on Pettman Crescent before following the foot/cycle path into Goldfinch Road. Head along here for five minutes, then turn right towards the Western Way. You'll see the pub on the left.

Named after a Victorian shipping disaster that took place nearby, this is a big new pub catering for the residents of the Gallions Reach development. If the pub's name is a little dispiriting, its location is equally gloomy: next to the busy Western Way, a gentle eight-iron from Woolwich Crown Court and HM Prison Belmarsh (Ronnie Biggs, Abu Hamza, Jonathan King and Jeffrey Archer have all been recent inmates) and a Thamesmead postcode. That said, the Princess Alice was quite upbeat on our visit. The staff were friendly whilst serving the locals, mainly families. There is no real ale here, unsurprisingly, but it was the first time we've garnered Nectar points with a pint. Being a Brewer's Fayre establishment, an extensive and reasonable (two courses for £5.99) menu is offered, featuring British pub classics as prawn cocktail, breaded garlic mushrooms and lasagna. Overall, a solid pub which does the job for its locals.
