The Shirley Inn is a friendly, slightly scruffy boozer that will gladly serve you ales such as Wadworth 6x, at late hours for your drinking convenience (11:30, or 12:30 on Fridays or Saturdays). The clientele feels more 'pubbish' than other taverns nearby, and there are certainly some regulars to be seen holding court at the bar, bantering agreeably with the staff. Entertainment consists of the usual darts, telly and jukebox (distressing modern variety); we enjoyed watching Match of the Day while listening to various awful tunes. Incidentally, this is a chain pub on the quiet, with the menu coming from the spirit group; although this means you get cheap food (8oz rump steak £3.45), it does mean you are giving money to people who brainstormed concepts such as Wacky Warehouse or Q's. Try not to think about it.
