how to find it:
From Russell Square, turn right out of the tube station, then next right. Walk along Guilford Street and past Great Ormond Street hospital. Lamb's Conduit Street is on your right, through Guilford Place. The Perseverance is on the right hand side, not far past the Lamb. From Holborn, leave by the side exit, and turn right up High Holborn. Cross the road and take the first left up Red Lion Street. Cross over Theobald's Road and carry straight on up into Lamb's Conduit Street. After a short while, you'll see the pub on your left hand side.

The Perseverance is another pub with gastro leanings, catering for the designer types who inhabit the area. It sports the de rigueur post-ironic décor of the genre, notably flock wallpaper covering the wall where there used to be a large blackboard listing the many ales that were on sale in a previous incarnation of this place. However, the current selection of beer is reasonable, though not extensive, the wine list is good and the food is decent, with a separate restaurant area upstairs. The only criticism one might make of the place is the incredible noise which can emanate from the clientele. If you've popped in here to do the crossword or read an existential novel, wear ear defenders. Still, this one offers up a decent, more modern alternative to the traditional pub experience of the Lamb.
