The Hope & Anchor sports a splendid tiled exterior, while internally there's a no less charming engraved mirror behind the bar. The wood flooring is also rather old school and the front part of the pub, in particular, serves, at least for part of the time, as a real local haunt, a public house worthy of the name. (There was quite a crowd in celebrating a baby's Christening when we visited late on a Saturday afternoon.) The area above and behind the bar, a little hidden away from this front room, has a pool table and a juke box and is a little more spacious and less traditional in appearance. We reckon it would fill up pretty quickly on evenings ahead of gigs at Koko (formerly the Camden Palace) just down the road. But at other times, it's a unpretentious, almost timeless, local. A decent enough place for a drink, to be sure.
