An interesting pub, this one - from the outside it resembles a nuclear bunker, from the inside it's an unusual cross between a student union and an indie nightclub. 'Arty' murals and fairy lights brush shoulders with Guinness inflatables and kitsch (we're presuming) dried flower arrangements; it's self-consciously eclectic but not overly pretentious. There's a fairly bog-standard range of beers and other drinks, with John Smith on tap and Old Specked Hen in bottles for lager-phobics. What really raises this pub above the average is the refreshing programme of live music on every night for the princely sum of £3. We ended up listening to 'experimental electronic folky meanderings', which might not be everybody's cup of tea, but with the apparently all-embracing music policy you're bound to find at least one night to suit your taste. Not the place for a quiet pint, perhaps, but well worth the walk if you're looking for something a bit different.
