A fine example of a Shepherd Neame pub, this cosy pub right on Farringdon road does a lot of things right. It's hard to fault the beer, and if you have to have lager, you could do worse than Asahi on tap. The excellent Spring beer, Early Bird, was on when we were in last, and it slipped down a bit easily on a warm afternoon with a pub lunch. The steak and ale pie and mash (pie sourced from Borough market) was superb, as was the beer-battered haddock and chips. The clientele was a good mix, local office workers and designers skiving off for a couple jars in the pub. Combined with friendly and accommodating staff, this isn't a bad little spot. Give it a go next time you're in the neighbourhood.
