how to find it:

Woolwich Arsenal station is closest. From there, turn left and catch a 51 or 53 bus up the hill for five minutes, alighting on Plumstead Common Road. Walk up Herbert Road for three minutes and you'll see the pub on your left.

picture of Lord HerbertA little tired looking on the outside, the Lord Herbert is a reasonable pub that does a job for (older, mostly male) locals. It's one of those venerable boozers you find all over London: worn upholstery, a skeletal selection of beer (no real ale), high ceilings and low expectations. On our visit, Pink Floyd and Queen provided the musical backdrop for the wholesale consumption of lager and cigarettes. Apparently, there are occasional live music nights too.
