how to find it:

Not A Short Trek from Elm Park tube, really, by way of The Broadway (turn right), Coronation Drive and South End Road. Any bus going towards Rainham (or the Mardyke Estate) will take you there, though. Or, from Rainham c2c station, take the 103 or 165 (towards Romford), or, from Dagenham East tube, the 103 (towards Rainham).

picture of Cherry TreeThis is a welcoming and unpretentious neighbourhood pub, neither exceptional nor offensive. There's a big public bar with a pool table, sports TV and chatty ambiance, with a beer garden attached. The saloon bar is smaller, and although a little quieter, doesn't really have a markedly different atmosphere from the public bar (this being classless Britain, or something.) There's also a sizable dining area, with a scenic view of the car park and some rather ugly housing; the view inside is rather better, as the decor of the room appears to aspire towards that of what one might describe as that of an olde worlde country inn. A mixed bunch of locals drink at the Cherry Tree, and the pub seems to be popular with families at weekend afternoons. There's also regular live entertainment'; on our visit gigs by a singer offering a tribute to Frank Sinatra, and by a group of male strippers were advertised, which, between them, probably give a fairly accurate idea of the intended and actual clientele of the pub, as does the regular scheduling of karaoke evenings.

Eating at the Cherry Tree ... we last ate here on 28/08/2005

Old-style pub food, served efficiently but prepared fairly indifferently. The gastro-pub prices are definitely undeserved, and the menu is littered with typos, too.
