picture of ClockworkPainted in a striking red and black with transfers on the windows announcing all the hip things inside, the exterior of Clockwork looks knowingly cool. Unusually though, this bar lives up to its own hype. The variety of customers helped, with new-age types, Goths, Hoxtonites and office workers all creating a genuinely friendly atmosphere. Even the staff had a rare sense of humour. For a Friday night it was pleasantly full - rather than annoyingly packed - and there was (pricey) pizza on offer. Although there were no real ales, it didn't look as if people were coming here for ale and the huge vodka choice nicely compensated. Sadly, on the negative side, table football wasn't the only 'old-skool' facility - as the grubby toilets illustrated - but it's a minor complaint. On top of all this, there's also a club upstairs, which might be rather tempting if you're still having a good time by 11pm. Overall, Clockwork is a strong three-pinter.
