The pubs and bars featured in Fancyapint? are always judged on their own merits. That's why it pays to look at Bluu's motion sickness-inducing web site after, rather than before, visiting the venue itself. Bluu's site describes itself as a having a 'style conscious image' and 'enormous synergy'. At least there's no pretence about not trying too hard, then. On the weekends there's predicable music-by-numbers including Balearic grooves, soul, house and R&B. All rather off-putting. Nevertheless, the bar itself is rather nice and the music not as bland as it reads on paper. One of the originators of the distressed furniture and exposed brickwork look in Hoxton (and therefore everywhere), it's blessed with friendly staff, a chilled-out atmosphere and a late licence. During the week it's a good place to meet for a pint and on weekends it handles the crowds in its stride. Not bad at all.
