The march of time is seemingly unstoppable in Kilburn High Road, considering that for a former a 'rough' area, it now boasts no fewer than five gastropubs. The unusually named Osteria Del Ponte (or Bridge Tavern, as it was called pre-renovation) is the latest. It's pretty much gastropub by numbers and reminiscent of the Oxford Arms in Kentish Town, with a rather bland loungey pub section at the front and large separate restaurant section at the back, complete with a wood-fired pizza oven. It good to see they pride themselves on their food and it was adequately busy on our weekday visit, even if the atmosphere was hardly electric. Still, the owners are doing what they set out to do and attract younger locals with a high disposable income, even if a few former regulars still pop in, having not yet resigned themselves to the fact that Kilburn ain't what it used to be.
