The Hill is a pretentious, upmarket gastropub that has recently tried to woo back the neighbourhood's drinkers with a separate tapas menu in the bar area. The restaurant still serves excellent French and Asian gourmet fare, but now the drinkers have their own nosh. There's only a small selection of standard beers on tap - the wine list is more expansive and imaginative. Unfortunately, their decorator, having perhaps read too many issues of Architectural Digest, went a bit overboard with the vintage, shabby chic decor: distressed gold leaf, faux antique sofas and plastic plants abound, even in the loo. And the young attractive bar staff and world pop music are perfectly pleasant. While not our favourite drinking spot, the Hill is a great place to take a date or your mum to watch the Beautiful People.
